Cherry Class love to learn!

WORLD BOOK DAY

On Thursday 7th March we celebrated World Book Day.  We loved sharing stories and dressing up as our favourite book characters.  Please take a look at our amazing costumes!  Later that day we met an author called Helen.  She brought her book about a special fox who explores the parks in Sheffield.  We found out how she gets her inspiration to write her stories.

We have been learning all about the story of the Three Billy Goats Gruff.  As part of our home learning we designed and made our own homes for the goats.  Look at some of our fantastic projects.

During our Science week we focused our learning around the story of The Gingerbread Man.  We had to try and find a way to get the Gingerbread Man across the river so that he could escape the fox.  We had to think about the best materials to use and how to make that material stronger or waterproof.

As we start the Spring term in school, we will be focusing upon a new question: What makes a home?

This half term we have been taking part in Dough Disco.  This is helping our fingers and hands to become stronger.  We also enjoyed dressing up for Children in Need and we wore our brightest clothes to help us think about staying safe as the nights get darker.

After we read the book Chapatti Moon we decided to make our own chapattis.

We have enjoyed learning about the story of the First Christmas.  We have explored why the Nativity story is so important to Christians.  We have taken part in our own Christmas play.  Can you guess which characters we are?

We have been learning about the Hindu Festival of Lights, Diwali.  We made Rangoli patterns using pasta shapes and we made our own diwa lamps using salt dough.

We made firework pictures and models to celebrate Bonfire Night.

In Autumn 2 we will continue to try and find the answer to the question 'What do we treasure?' This half term we will focus upon the Hindu festival of light 'Diwali' and then Christmas.  We will learn about family customs and traditions.

We loved making and selling our own pizzas for the Farmer's Market.

Cherry Class love to learn!

We love to learn outside.

We can name the parts of a ship.

We love to live like pirates!

We have been searching for 2D shapes.

What is my child going to learn about this term?

We have sent home a copy of the learning we have planned for your child this term. On this sheet you should find an explanation of what will be covered for each area of the national curriculum. You will also find aspects we describe as ‘memorable experiences’. These are the elements that will bring the learning to life for the children. You will also see an ‘end product’ section. Here we describe what the children are working towards; this could be a display, performance or a piece of writing. We believe this helps to give the children a focus or reason for learning the information. You will also find references made to ‘drip and block’. Drip refers to things that happen all the time, such as spellings, for example. Block refers to things that do not fall naturally into the theme and as such are taught as discreet, unrelated units.

Alongside this, your child will also have a knowledge organiser - a sheet of key facts and dates to learn which will help them with their topic for that term.

Autumn Term

Our Class Charter

We can earn rewards by making good choices.  We can earn dojo points for ourselves and these can be swapped for small treats.  We can also earn points for our house teams - The Steelers, The Eagles, The Sharks and The Hatters.  At the end of the year the winning house team gets a special reward!

We discussed together making good choices and came up with our own class charter.  We have all signed to say that we will make good choices by making thumbprints.
